Here is an update about the polygonal diaphragm issue. The illustration shows the shape and relative position of a small emitter sphere in renders with different diaphragm settings. Fstop is 8. As you can see, the shape of focus blur with polygonal is wrong, and off-axis. Rotating the diaph by 180° seems to mirror the blur along a vertical axis. If this was a real camera, I would suspect a bad centering of the diaphragm hole : no effect of the object is in focus, but a shift of the blur (not sure of that, just an intuition).
