try and create a material like this: (i know, that's not an realistic scenario, but it produces the bug)
Image

all the additive layers are just duplicates of the base layer. (in some tries only one additive layer had been enough)

it seems, that one can avoid this bug, when:
1. the force fresnel in the base layer is deactivated
2. the nd-value in the base layer is not being set too high

you can already see the bug in the preview - just to complete it, here's the mxcl render:

i tried it in standalone mxed, in studio-mxed and rendered it in mxcl.
additionally: i am able to create that bug with the "simball" (also the v2 one), with "drapery", with an self-made preview scene (in which physical sky was used)... but i wasn't able to produce it with the default preview scene, or the arroway scene for example... (at least i haven't tried too long).
so some scenes seem to be resistent.

edit: i saw that while using the maxwell64bit version on vista64.

btw:
since this one is reproducable so easily (at least here), i thought, scrshots were sufficient.
if that's not the case, let me know and i'll upload a simple example-scene.
