I have successfully rendered several files in maxwell, mostly some very complicated and detailed furniture models, and so I recently tried to render one of my architectural designs, a house with very complex curves and glass and metal detailing, and whenever I attempt to render this scene in Maxwell FormZ will crash, I do not have the file with me but will upload it so you can look at it, I was using the sun settings only, does Maxwell have a polygon count limit?

Hello cornetetj,

No, it does not. We have done test with 8 millions of triangles. You can send me the scene. Group your objects in the scene (in the objects palette) and hide/show each group until you get the object that causes the crash. You can send me an scene just with this object, it would be easier for me. The only issue I have noticed that causes formZ to crash is with an special geometry when I try to get the texture info. For example, the object named “object 739” of the model “dunne-buggy-smooth" of the formZ web site causes a crash when Maxwell analyces its texture data. Just hide this object and the scene will be rendered fine. We are investigating this issues with FormZ corp to achieve full stability.

Can you hide the objects using the layer pallette, or do I need to group objects in groups as opposed to layers, wasn't sure if Maxwell recognized a difference between the two.

Both of them. You can use the layer palette and also the object palette to hide the objects.
