I made a symbol in Form-Z from several objects that have been joined. When I send it to Render from Z to Maxwell Render the symbols do not show up in the Maxwell rendering. If I open the mxs file in studio, they are not there as well. I do have symbols as instances checked.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Aaron

Hello Aaron:

I have had some trouble with sending symbols to Maxwell— usually some of the objects in the Form Z symbol were joined prior to the final joining with other objects. After fixing this everything was fine.

Hope that helps,

Well, I know for a fact that I did have some objects that were joined prior to the final joining. So I unjoined everything and did one join on the entire model. Anyway, it still did not work.

Yes, there are some known issues with symbols and we are adapting our sdk to deal with these issues better in future updates.

Hi

Some times the problem for a object not to show up in a rendering is because there are some negative volume objects inside the joined model.
Check with the Query tool to see if your object is:
-Mixed type
or Has a negative volume

If it is Mixed type, with positive volume but still doesn't show in the rendering, use the Separate Tool on that object (several times if needed) till you get all the objects separated and see if you have any negative volumes. (use the reverse direction tool to make an object volume positive or negative)

There is a script in formZ web site to check for negative volume objects in a scene, but if a Mixed Object was created by joining several objects, and one had a negative volume, it won't tell you that.

Hope this helps

PS: ¿ Juan you also don't have weekends ? :-)

Hi Paulo,

I separated all the parts. I have no mixed objects and no negative volumes, although some objects are solids and others are surfaces. Have you ever encountered problems with joining different topologies with in a symbol? I also have some facetted and smooth objects in the symbol as well. I am wondering if that might cause a problem???

Also, I have some objects that have two different mxm's in them. For example a solid object with a gold middle material and two flanking wood sides. In other words I applied the color to the faces.

Hope that makes sense.
Thanks,

Aaron

Hi Aaron

Usually I transform all the smooth objects into faceted and triangulate -all- the faces.
Try to render the original object before making it a symbol to see if works, may be without textures.
