Hola

today for some reason I had to check a render-straight-out-of-formZ mxs file in Studio. I found that all simple "matte" formZ materials end up as mxm with a transmittance color. Is that how it's meant to be? (formZ 6.1.1 on OSX with latest plugin)

Hi Dexel,

Matte translation can not be done accurately because there is not an equivalent in Maxwell. In your case the plugin is mapping the formz color map to the 0º reflectance texture and the reflection as a color or a map depending on the case. We will look into that right now to check that there is not any issue. By the way if you think there are more accurate ways to translate each formz style to mxm materials we are glad to hear your suggestions to improve it.

Hi Juan

thanks for replying. In this case, Reflection: Matte is not the problem, sorry for my unprecise post. formZ Transparency: None translates to mxm Transmittance 127/127/127, and that's odd. I think formZ Transparency: None should translate to mxm Transmittance 000/000/000 - as far as I understand the mxm system (and that may be not very far..)

I'd sure like to help improve mat translation. Just right now I have no time to properly dissect formz mats and suggest mxm approximations - this needs a systematic approach..
formZ mat parameters seem quite strange indeed after spending some time in BSDF-land. Actually the plugin translation works quite well for quick work I think - except for the transparency issue. And for more precise materials I prefer mxms anyway. I would rather like an optimized MXED integration in the formZ Surface Style edit dialogue than translations of the special formZ Reflection styles.

I will post my insights, but I guess others may have more to contribute.

Thank you
Sebastian
