Hi wimber,

Can you try running maxwell render engine from the command line?:
open a terminal->assuming you have installed maxwell package in "applications" folder. Type this commands:

cd /Applications/Maxwell/maxwell.app/Contens/MacOS
./mxcl -d

can you tell us what appears in the console in this case?

Thanks a lot.

G5HD80:~ wimver$ cd /Applications/Maxwell/maxwell.app/Contents/MacOS
G5HD80:/Applications/Maxwell/maxwell.app/Contents/MacOS
wimver$ ./mxcl -d

Info: path = /Users/wimver/.Trash/maxwell G5 beta 1.2.2/maxwell.app/Contents/MacOS/
License file is invalid!

should I empty the trash?

trash is empty >> maxwell starts!

(this is weird, in former OSX versions, no application would start unless it was removed from the trash ! )

I will try formz now!

wimver, what do you mean with "still nothing in formz"? can you run formZ? I understand you can run maxwellapp now, dont you?

for clarity, let me resume the situation here now:

I can run Formz, I see the Maxwell menu, I can alter values, and when I click render, nothing seems to happen, but a file output.mxs is generated in the location I defined in the MW menu. I can then open Studio, open the mxs file and hit Render. I get a very nice rendering.
but I cannot render from within FormZ. it gives me the above mentioned error log.
any clues?
meanwhile, I discovered that the path to the desktop is defined in the preferences of Studio (scenes, materials, textures) but I can't find another place where that path could be defined.

tnx

It seems the .mxs type is not properly registered in your system.
Try with this:
ctrl + click over an mxs file--> choose "open with"-->select maxwell.app.

If it does not work, open a console again and type it:

cd /Applications/Maxwell/maxwell.app/Contens/MacOS

./mxcl -d

and load from the UI the mxs file you have generated with FormZ.
