Ok, I decided to bite the bullet and retexture an old model that I did in Beta. I exported the model into 3ds, reimported the file, and started texturing from scratch.

However, I'm getting failed renderings left and right in RC5. Sometimes the room will render just fine. Then, I move a couple of faces around, do some modification and magically it fails. It's either faulty geometery, some mapping problem, or worse, solid black rendering for the geometery. Rotating a texture 90 degrees via texture maping can produce failure. This model rendered fine in Beta! Am I missing something?

Exactly the same experiences here monochrome. I have files which when I open, do nothing other than adjust the maxwell settings, will crash 9 out of 10 times. And more often than not the resulting render is black, despite using physical sky, emiters etc. I've tried triangulating everything and this makes no difference what so ever.

I can just about get .obj files exported from FormZ to open in Studio, but I then get errors trying to render out of Studio. I can honestly say that I stumped up the cash for Maxwell solely on NL's promise of a FormZ plugin. It was looking pretty good back at Beta stage, but we seem to have taken several steps backwards since then.

Juan, you've been very helpful in the past regarding Maxwell/FormZ. Are you able to communicate the current situation regarding this plugin? Are we likely to see a much improved version in the near future? Any information would be very welcome.

Cheers,

Nik

I think most of the issues are with RC5 & Studio. I imagine that it would be pointless to rewrite any plugins until a usable RC or final is released.

Personally I prefer to see some screenshots or video clips like (http://www.maxwellrender.com/files/coop ... dition.avi) to see how Maxwell is progressing.

Communication & regular announcements ......... good
Shoddy RC builds ............................................ bad, really bad.

Ok, I'm not alone in this problem so I'm going back to Beta. But Beta is also finicky about mapping! At least Rc5 gives you the specific object that's having a "problem." Maxwell should render regardless of mapping/geometery problems.

NL, according to the poll made by Tom a few days ago people want, most everybody wants plugin workflow. I cannot produce the visualization for my client without the FormZ plugin.

Hello all,
The development of the plugin has not stopped and you will see further enhancements soon, we are working on it. In the next update of the plugin the formZ groups are exported to studio, so you can keep the order of the scene when you import it into Studio. Also there will be huge ( yes, huge ;) )improvements in the workflow, we will release more info about it soon. On the other hand we are beggining to work with FormZ 6 beta looking for a better integration in the future (for instance, looking for adding the Maxwell materials inside the FormZ surface styles palette instead using custom attributes and other very good features). Please do not think we are not taking care about the FormZ plugin, we have put enormous efforts in new wonderful features like the new real time control of emitters or the new multiplatform cooperative netmanager. Now we will update the plugin to make possible to get the best of Maxwell. We apologize for the issues you are getting with the plugin.

Also please if you have any formZ scene (not too big ;) ) that gets an error when trying to export to mxs, please send it to maxwelltech@nextlimit.com (attach the platform and specifications of your system )

Regards,

Juan

So meanwhile we're to use Beta? Juan, this current one is unusable.
Fracking Unusable.

"If you want to have highways you've got to build roads." Yes, the palette feature would be fantastic, but can't you guys get the basics figured out? Get the foundations working before you start dreaming of the future.
