A little check box for auto-removal of black matte from the layer channels would save the (easily forgettable) workaround of Layer -> Remove black matte in Photoshop

I'm not sure, I understand what you mean by "removing" a black matte.

If you render to PNG there's an option to embed the alpha channel. Works only for the final render, though.

This refers to the step AFTER that. Take that "embedded", clipped image and throw it into Photoshop. On many images, you can make out a thin black line outlining the shape of your render. This is due to the anti-aliasing calculated by the application.

This should be a feature from the beginning... I don't use Photoshop... why should I? There is GIMP and 100s other free apps for adjusting image output...
I just want to make simple arch renderings... with a photo as background... I haven't heard of such problems with any other renderer, so this should be resolved from Maxwell and not having to use another app...

You can try Photoline (http://www.pl32.com/index.php), is inexpensive and you can use the Maxwell photoshop plugin on it, they worked together (PS Nextlimit developer and Photoline developers) to make it work.

Well there's very good reasons to do the postprocessing in higher bitdepth than Gimp and all free photo-editors allow for.
They all do 8 bit per channel only.

Photoline is super cheap alternative to add 16 and even 32 bit if one can stand the aweful GUI.
Hopefully Computerinsel at some point starts working together with a UX-Designer too.
Best before Adobe stops shipping regular upgrades and further concentrates on their nutty subscription-service they call Creative Cloud.
