and a texture replacement tool would be helpful - a simple tool that lists all textures of a material and lets you select new textures as replacement.

That would be a huge help, particularly when you want to use the same structure as another material but just replace the maps, which happens often to me. It would sure beat having to go through and find each map and replace them individually.
