Any features you'd like to see implemented into Maxwell?

Maxwell's picture perfect lighting solution would be even stronger if it could be baked into a texture map for use with interactive arch viz or computer entertainment.

Paul.

yes yes yes!! I had to do a baking job recently for an old farm renewed into a school. I had to use Rhino->XSI->Unltimate Unwrap3D (for the conversion)->Blitz3D, pheewww, I wish Maxwell would allow easy baking with ready dds txtures to pop onto the polygon reduced Rhino modell.

i dream of that since the start!!

This cannot work because maxwell is a view dependent renderer unlike say 'Lightscape' which created a 'solution' for the model. Would be nice in principle though!

why does it work with Fry?

Lets hear what Next Limit has to say shall we. After all Maxwell does approximate some things.

The answer could be :

"Dear Customers,

Lightbaking is IMPOSSIBLE with Maxwell, but as you know, you can do that using one of the other renderers of the market.

Next Limit Team"

Thats strange, because the last time I posted about light-baking, Next Limit supported that this was a planned feature for a future version. But typically, this post has been suspiciously removed from the forums.

Perhaps NL got ahead of themselves. Understandable in a cooperate environment but for customers this is severely disappointing. Shame on the misconception.

Cheers,
Paul.

I think def4d meant that ironically with a tint of sarcasm.

There's already enough confusion here. NL are you working on Light-Baking or not? There are 8 instances of this very important question on the forums already. Each and every under different threads. Can we clear this up please?

Cheers,
Paul.

I think it's been hinted that they are working on something big, I'm guessing it's MW V2.0. I can say with relative certainty that they will not announce any new features until it's nearing completion or into testing phase. Please instead of wasting your time "demanding" to know answers, I suggest to go render something.

I appreciate your sentiment but I am rendering plenty off things, commercially. I also appreciate maxwell for what it is in terms of a piece of software but I think it could be improved in the following areas: Light-Baking.

It's been said enough already and don't blame me for reviving this post. It's a testament to how popular this 'demand' is, if you would so call it that.

Please don't patronize me my good friend I've only been suggesting from the beginning that NL add this popular feature. There are no demands going on here but I can see how your frustrated with the broken record repetition of this feature request. Instead of demoting the idea, why not join us in supporting NL's decision to explore this future functionality?

Cheers,
Paul.

Nah, I'm not frustrated. :) I have also joined in with this wish of light baking at times. I just think there will be no answers until they are ready. My answer was just a playful joking.
But I would love to see animations and even games made with Maxwell's great lighting!!

Sure! That would be pretty sweet to see an example of.
Games are a big plus for Maxwell's lighting accuracy. Allowing physically accurate lighting to realtime scenes through baking would be the talk of the industry im sure. Then there's Intel's larabee project. While we may be 6-8 years off real-time spectral rendering of Maxwell's precision it would be interesting to note that real-time ray-tracing is quickly becoming widely accepted as a near future replacement for raster engines such as Unreal 3 and CryEngine 2.

Interesting times indeed Bubbaloo. :D

Apologies if I came across as short fused btw, I clearly misunderstood your angle which is unsurprisingly easy to do when typing rather than speaking.:P

Cheers,
Paul.
