Any features you'd like to see implemented into Maxwell?

Hiya!

I'm not sure if this been requested yet but i'd like to have a infinite groundplane such as the one Splutterfish Brazil has, it would be useful for those quick "throw-out-a-object-and-render-it-nicely" type of scenes we all do :)

Hehe funny :) but actually that's the opposite of how a infinite plane works in Brazil, or i think they call it a CSG plane, but it's inifite and it renders alot faster than as a example the normal plane u find in 3dsmax. Which is the reason why the implemented it. A huge flat plane surface can be used for anything u wanna render and it's quite a important piece of object in alot of scenes, and if that can render faster then u shave off some extra calculation time :) so it would do just good.

And it could also be pushed a bit further and in the core implement all the basic models such as sphere, cube, cylinder, cone and the torus as u can find those in various shapes and forms in many scenes, if those are csg's then u cut quite a bit off the rendering times. But then again i'm not really sure about all this, i'm just a normal geek, not a programmer. However it seems logic and makes sense to me. :)

don't worry 8etty, the actual rendertimes are already infinite

Great IDEA!

YEs It would rock and save tons of time!
Exellent Suggestion!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but an infinite groundplane would have no horizon. Just wondering what advantage it would have over a BIG plane, other than the fact that it wouldn't fly. :D

Umm.. i wouldn't know about a horizon but it's more memory efficient and it renders faster than a normal plane does, that's what makes it so good and usable amongst other things. It just gives you less of trouble when as a example you're setting up your architectual scene and you need a solid ground for it to stand on, and if it can be calculated within the core it'll certainly speed things up for you and cuts down the ram usage too. But it's not like it's a huge sphere which makes your sky dissapear :) just a plain simple plane that looks sexy when rendered :P heh..

I think it has an horizon, just at 0°. Not very different from what you can see when at sea.

I just hope it's possible, this rocks when presenting "standalone" objects.

Having a horizon is an effect of living on a round panet or seeing the edge of a finite plane, so in theory an infinite ground plane should have no horizon, unless its actually curved  . Just a little thought experiment. Probably had too much caffiene again. Walking that fine line between perky and jerky. :D  :D

Hem... another thought experiment here : you are standing on an infinite plane, under a sky dome, looking straight in front of you. The line of you gaze is just parallel to the plane, so, you have an unobsructed line of sight to the infinite ie, you are looking at a line where the infinite plane and the sky met, that is an horizon. The only funny consequence of the plane being infinite is that the horizon will allways be a 0° horizontal whatever heigh above the plane you are.

it's not that hard... a horizon IS an infinite groundplane
depending on the angle between your camera and the groundplane you see more or less of it
