Any features you'd like to see implemented into Maxwell?

Sure, but what if the art director doesn't like the strength of the robot's reflections? With a reflection pass it's a matter of seconds to tweak this in the composite.
Without individual passes you'd have to re-render completely, that's something to consider in production.

you are exaclty right chris, directors whims are difficult to accomodate in a single pass render . . . perhaps we will get less changes if the directors understand how much it will cost them to change things once they have given their ok . . .

speed, inability to render elements and passes, as well as not having procedural shaders or any way to make your own materials, will keep maxwell out of being a valid choice for fx films, but we know that materials are chagning and perhaps NL will come up with a way to render just the particular components, spec refl, bounce n .. .. etc

until then, i think there is great potential for an all cg short for maxwell, as long as it is well planned and the plan is adhered to. however this calls for a different approach than
the multi-pass put-it together in the comp world. . .and perhaps a couple of years .... or ten

small and tiled renderings go a long way to help reduce the amount of time needed to make changes . . .buy off low res then chunk out the frames . . .

IMHO the look of an object shouldnt change from scene to scene once the development in a neutral environment is done, objects dont behave that way in the real world . . . but i guess its all a matter of taste . . .

----back to topic ----
perhaps someone could convince XSI how many more seats they could sell if they provided a hook to maxwell . . . .im sure maxwell sdk is far less complex than that of xsi . . .

Talking about reflections, Its tough enough in
Maxwell to get rid of unwanted reflections.
I did a display case and I couldn't get rid of the reflections on
the glass piece of the case and still have nice reflections
jewelery inside of the case.
So its another thing maxwell needs, include, exclude
reflections.

About XSI providing a hook for Maxwell would be fantastic,
but I think if they were going to put any resources into
3rd party renders it would be Vray. You only have to go to
XSIBase and see how many people want it.

I haven't seen a particularly strong call for VRay at XSIBase.
Considering that with XSI 5 mental ray gets Final Gathering Multi Bounce, VRay has no advantage over mental ray for interior renderings anymore. I've seen some mental ray 3.4 renders that were made in Maya and interiors now look just as good as VRay ones.

Besides, I'm sooooo tired of the plain old VRay look.
Head over to evermotion and take a look at some interiors. I can always tell when VRay was used. All the rooms look the same

Maxwell is a different story. It uses a different approach than all the other renderers out there and I think it's really the only engine that's interesting to XSI users besides mental ray.

mental ray is production proven and well integrated into XSI, there's no need for VRay, Brazil and all the others.

Yep I know about XSIv5.0 I've been lucky enough to beta test it.
All I can say is I'm pretty damn happy with it, wish I could say more.
I've been knocking out images as good as vray.

Theres one thing that will keep vray in the running is the speed it can do flythroughs, theres no way I would attemp one in maxwell and for
Mental Ray 3.3 trying to do a fly through with out spotches and flickering is a joke. Heres hoping mental ray v3.4 will be as good as vray.

Every couple of months theres someone starting a new thread on
XSIBase for Vray XSI. Do a search you'll be surprised, Bernard (XSIbase owner ) is always complaining about them. :)

But I'm all for Maxwell for XSI, I cannot wait to get it. Every job I have
and have the time for, I'll use Maxwell.

That would be a good answer and could actually make us more lenient about xsi plugin delay. :D

Yeah for sure, like we said early, the new SDK for XSIv5.0 is a lot
more user friendly.
Maybe some awesome guy will wanna try it out
and make the Maxwell/XSI plugin for us lovely folk :)

yep,

just go down on the first webpage of evermotion's site and look on the left you have titles. Search for freestuff section, then be happy, cry, shout loud or whatever you feel like  .

http://www.evermotion.org/?unfold=free_stuff this way is maybe easier.
