Any features you'd like to see implemented into Maxwell?

Maybe the following question doesn't fit in here, but: anyone any chance to get out of ustation a decent *.3ds file to get it working with matadorlight?

I elaborate a bit: I tried several options to export over *.dwg acad 2005 till 11/12 to *.3ds to try to render something in matadorlight.

The problem is that I seem only able to export 3d primitives or free-forms but not modified (union, intersection, diff...) or complex solids.

The errors can originate from very different parameters in matador, in ustation or in the converter... so I'm a bit puzzled.

Anyone?

Vincent.
Hey Vincent.
I think that if you first drop everything to MESH, you should have no problem with DXF.
I tried Matador only once and had no trouble taking the file in but found that setting up a camera was a nightmare so, since I have MAX, I have never been back...

not sure would this fit with microstation dgn file..??
The current Beta is a partial implementation of the final standalone.
This and the final will use plugins to generate the maxwell files.
What is unclear is how much the plugin will do.
I argued that it would be better if the plugin simply translated the geometry and everything else happened in the M~R standalone, so that NL could concetrate on the latter and only have to update the former when the recipient program was updated in a way that necessitated it.
In order for this to work NL would have to implement some way for materials to stick when you pull in an updated version of the file, or an alternate. The MS way would be great for this but I doubt anyone at NL knows how the PAL/MAT system in MS works....
Any way, all we can do is wait and hope they deliver it soon, and that if they go the way of more functional plugins, they make an effort to update them all at the same time, when changes are necessary. My fear is that, much as is happening now, the popular ones will get immediate attention and the obcure ones, like MS is for them, will not.....

good point, and what about (or why aren't they willing to) supporting "generic" formats like *.3ds, *.u3d, step, iges or even *.dxf ?
(maybe I should start a new tread for this request)

Vincent.
Vincent. One of the NL guys has already said some formats will be supported natively but did not respond when I asked for a list.
Hopefully by midnight some of you will be able to verify which.
So, i guess you gave up on MS render as well, ah?
