Well, a linux or Solaris MIPS version *MIGHT* be usefull, but IRIX is basically dead. China has gone into mass productions of a modified R10000 MIPS chip, so maybe MIPS won't dissapear from desktops.
If only IRIX went opensource...
P.S. if you do this please give us the Mac maya plugin before the IRIX version
