Any features you'd like to see implemented into Maxwell?

This is the feedback I gave to the great idea from Mihai to revamp the old or dead MXM gallery within Maxwell's resources website. Please go there and help us out with your thoughts and wishes :)

""I know most of us will ask for types of materials, making it easy to swap a few textures and values in order to have a totally different material within the same type.
For me what is really important is to make it organized and easy to use, so my concerns are about material categories:

1 – Speed: Very Fast/Fast/Slow/Very Slow, related to the SL achieved over time (Simball scene or other).
2 – Quality: High/Medium/Low, about textures and its pixels and overall image quality.
3 – Type: basically what we have in v3 but we either base it on “visibility” (opaque, transparent, translucent…) or “real materials” (AGS, car paint, hair, metal…), not both! Is metal always opaque? A grid fence makes is a metal type or an opaque type? My suggestion is to base it on “real materials”, their core, what they are made of.
4 – Size: Undefined/S/M/L/XL, “real materials” are represented by its size. An untextured material will always be undefined but others should have real measurements. Some materials require large textures to avoid the repetitive look.
5 – Age: New/Used/Old, the effect of time over a “real material”. It is based on how textures look and what we do with masks.

When we want to render a particular scene with a particular perspective we have close and far materials. Materials that should be great in quality, other in speed… Some types of materials should be old, others completely new! To achieve this just pick from drop down lists that will channel your choosing. (1,2,3,4)…
Pick its speed, then its quality, then its type, its size and at last its age… This could make it a bit complex but that’s what I have been wishing all along. Just tagging the materials with these categories would also be nice :)

Mihai, what can I say? Cheers up and a big thanks!!""

to revamp the old or dead MXM gallery within Maxwell's resources website
Thanks Joao, but just to keep things clear, this site is completely mine, it's not tied to the current MXM gallery provided by NL in any way. The idea with maxwellzone is to try and expand the Maxwell ecosystem, with materials, models, scenes and anything else that makes Maxwell more efficient to use and more popular. Some will be free, others paying, but they will all be high quality.

So what I'm asking on that page are simply suggestions for materials you want to see the most, to get started with something. If other people want to contribute materials to this site, and if they are of sufficiently high quality/usability, just please get in touch with me through the site. I plan on setting up a shop-like functionality soon.

About the material categories, I think the best approach will be to have some "root" categories based on what the material is called in the real world, what it consists of. Then for the other things like render speed, worn/new, optical properties, main color etc. - these will be best handled with tags. So you will have a good two pronged approach to searching for a material - besides the usual word search of course.

VRAY? Been there done that and I have moved on... forward!
We all know that computation will always prevail over humans! So I want to keep with a rendering system that, even being slower today because over its real life approach, will (in a near future) be everyone's approach because computers will do their jobs not faster, but instantly... We have to do ours, CREATIVITY :)

Maxwell is one thing, Next Limit is another thing... I don't really care about who's who. I just try to focus on people and their
knowledge and will to share... Mihai is one of many that are up to it, as you are Half Life! Making a profit out of it is also fair...

Quality materials is what I think is needed, and a few bucks for it won't be a problem if it will be something we will use often!
In the beginning a few of then will be free and that is enough for everyone to realize if Mihai is on the same page for what people want :)
