Any features you'd like to see implemented into Maxwell?

It would be great to have some kind of ability to map paths to help cross-platform rendering. My workstations are on Windows but render nodes on Linux which name paths completely different. Nuke and Deadline have a setting where it will basically do a string substitution say from "M:\project1\image.jpg" on Windows to "/srv/project1/image.jpg" on Linux. You just tell it that any path with "M:\" should be replaced with "/srv/" and away it goes. And it will also switch the "\" for "/" when needed.

The asset repository options are somewhat helpful here, but aren't as flexible as I would like.

Would be super helpful especially for moving to Amazon cloud rendering or similar.

thanks!

That's an interesting fix suggested in the help docs. I don't think I would have ever thought of that.

Instead of a work around like that that's specific to one operating system, why not have Maxwell send the path as a serialized array by folder level and let the end client (the render nodes) unserialized the path in their native format? That should simplify a lot of mixed farm situations.

If you need to accommodate special protocols for the render node to connect to a network share (like Samba or FTP), that could be a local setting for the render node in it's preferences. It could even be a list of protocols that it tries in sequence until access is granted.

I know you guys are working on the new render network system, so this may be a feature that you look into with that. The new system currently depends on a single network share folder, but you could lift that restriction with something like this.

Just a thought. Thanks Next Limit!
