This is kind of a far-out idea, and it may not be feasible but I thought the idea was cool so I should at least throw it out there for minds smarter than mine to look into.
What I would like is a "thread count" option in the Maxwell material interface -- the idea being that the material we create is actually describing a thread when this option is activated and Maxwell will virtually "weave" a cloth at any density from our designed thread.
Corel Painter has had a virtual loom for years called "Weaves" and I'm basically thinking of a Maxwell version of this. It would certainly make doing things like curtains, tablecloths, upholstery, sails, umbrellas, tarps, and of course regular cloths much more realistic.
Best,
Jason.
