Please post here anything else (not relating to Maxwell technical matters)

Very interesting renderer and technical development topics.
I especially like the atmosphere, tonemaping. This is a one man project, that is planned to be commercial, also I read that he is thinking to cooperate maybe with some bigger company "(not Autodesk)" ...
Here are the links:

and this is details of new sky model from one of forum topics:

I dont´t want to compare anything now, but I found it very interesting.

yes, looks very interesting. I've been following the development since last year. Nice improvements in features and speed over the time...

Hi,

Seems like lots of ArchViz's Stars ( Guthrie, Xoio, Bertrand Benoit,..) are loving Corona, all of them coming from Vray. So, does any of you have been testing Corona lately? How does it compare to Maxwell in terms of render's speed?

Would love to test this by my self but currently I don't use 3dsmax.

Thanks,
josé

do I take it that put's you off bubbaloo ?
can't say any of that bothers me to be honest , but I do respect we are all different . I would imagine looking at that menu there is a bit of learning curve , never touched it so would love to know myself how big that is. But I would say looking at there forums , some lovely renders have been produced with it with some pretty quick times in comparison to maxwell to boot(I'm being speculative as I haven't seen a direct comparison, but some of the interior times listed are much quicker than I expected).

vertex connection and merging has already been implemented in it and portals , wish that was the case in

shame there is no plugin for modo , hope somebody here has a look at it and gives their thoughts compared to maxwell. (beyond the gui :D )

@Brian, Are those all the settings Corona has? if that's the case I don't think it's so complicated, Vray has 5X mores settings. Of course I love Maxwell's simplicity, but if Corona's render speed is so fast as seems to be, I might be interested.

Cheers,
josé

I only laugh because I look at all of those arbitrary settings and it takes me back 10 years ago when I was using mental ray before I discovered Maxwell. But you are right, everyone can make his/her own decision, and market competition is good.

To be fair, I must admit I felt kind of a panic attack watching those settings ; ) but the quality output and render speed might worth it...

Couldn't resist testing how fast Corona would be! I downloded the Benchmark scene, which doesn't require 3ds max to be installed. It's just an standalone version of Corona. I must say that I'm impressed by how fast Corona cleaned the scene. My old Mac Pro 2008 finished the job in 8:08 min  I think this is prety fast. What dou you think?

I don't get why do you guys still compare biased to unbiased.

With the greatest of respect Tom (I really do mean it) .I'm not bothered if its biased or unbiased ,I just care about how the final image looks . Now if one looks the same or very very similar to another but is a lot faster I'd happily disregard the semantics of biased/unbiased .
I'm not doing a science project , I just want images finished faster I have a finite amount of hours left in me for 3d and in that time I'd like to get as much done as possible. I ended up in this part of the render world as the biased engine I was using just didn't give me the look of what maxwell does . Whether that was due to the shaders or the light transport differences I don't know. (or care tbh)
In all honesty if it had given me the results that Corona does I might not be here (can't give a definite answer on that as I'm just going on some of the renders I've seen produced ) as it seems a lot closer to an unbiased feel than the render engine I was using before. I'd quite happily tweak settings to my hearts content if it meant getting the same/or very similar results faster. I know we are all different on this !!

your not going to do it and I'm wasting my breath but I'd love you to introduce some options for bias in maxwell (portals vcm etc etc )….. but I already know its not going to happen :D

I also see the irony in the interiors tutorial that next limit posted , that's just a user introducing bias albeit in a limited fashion.

Again Tom , said with respect as I do love what the maxwell engine produces .

Haha, thanks.
