I'm used to seeing some pretty unbelieveable jobs on this batsh*t crazy site, but this takes the effing biscuit:

_________
"I am designing a website for a fishing bait company. They would like a stylish animation featured on their home page, which will be embedded into the websites design. The animation needs to be pretty short - it is an opening intro to the website.
The animation is to look real life, as if you are looking down into a lake, with a rippling effect in the water and boilies (fishing bait) positioned at the bottom of the lake. A carp swims along and eats the bait - leaving an smooth imprint of the companies logo at the bottom of the lake."

Budget Range : £50 - £100

Budget Type : Fixed Fee

...within two hours it even has a clutch of bids!
___________

surely NO-ONE can be that much of a lunatic?

I guess it would depend on what £50 - £100 will get you where you live, and what you consider to be the meaning of "animation is to look real life." :P

But yeah, I've seen sites like that before, and they always made me wonder: who's getting screwed when a deal gets put together? The person looking for bids, who wants to pay with a handful of lint, or the person bidding on it, from whom you have no guarantee of performance. Or just as possible, maybe the sites never accommodate any actual business at all, and instead exist mainly to a) gather click-through revenue, and b) gather valid email addresses for sale to spam databases, from those gullible enough to volunteer them.

Who knows -- it does tend to make for good comedy, at any rate. :)

I obviously don't mind web-designers adding a mark-up when they deliver to the end client, but this pricing trend is getting ridiculous.

A lot of it going on in the uk......what makes me spit is the fact that the BBC & the Gov see these 'people per minute' sites as the future of freelance homeworking!.......f*ck you very much too Mr Cameron.

Rant over......breath slowly, calm thoughts.....

is there hope that those rates are hourly? i would think even the most ignorant person in the world would understand that it would cost more than that. I know zero about air conditioners but I gather that it is going to cost more than $100 to fix it. geez

fixed fee for full project......nice!

So glad most of my clients are still alive in this glorious economy......failing that I'll be off to eat snow & rocks.

That is obviously a job targeted at some high school kid with no job, using pirated software. It probably sounds like a lot of money for him. I'd be tempted to take the job and deliver just what one would expect for that rate. 1985 era CG.

yes today any kid has a cheap pc.. pirated software.. papa-mama living.. no electricity bill no nothing.. so 100£ is good pocket money.. because off course he'll pay no taxes .. so all benefit.. and because most English Families are going to be really broke soon... it might count as a revenue for the family.. who knows..

But I feel like there is no real job behind.. LOL.. a fish Co. just spending 50-100£ for their site... not serious.. a bad joke..
So I am thinking E-mail fishing... hehe.. funny it's for a fish stuff... lol..

for that price I'd shoot it in a bathtub with my iPhone. They'd have to bring the carp though.

Wait...

Who the hell fishes for carp anyway?
