Please post here anything else (not relating to Maxwell technical matters)

Hey guys,
I know there are a few people in this forum that uses Maxwell for their Jewelry work. Hopefully one of you will know how possible would be for me to create 1 custom ring. The modeling part will not be a problem  ... or so I think :? ... The problem would be making it a reality and how much will a company charge for it.

I lost my Class ring while surfing. I tried to recover it with my snorkeling gear but the place that I lost my ring is very shallow / razor-sharp reef and the waves are very powerful! I didn't last more than 20 sec looking for the ring when I had to abort the mission.

I don't care of what metal it's made out of as long as it doesn't rust

Hi Leonardo, I would be happy to help in any way I can. Feel free to PM or email me offline if you want/need additional info.

The modeling is usually not a problem, the issues arise when you need to translate that model to a real world object:

Metal has to cast properly - school rings often have issues on the flooring (between the letters) so sometimes you need to model roughness into your model. You always have to model with respect to post process issues (will this design create porosity (bubbles in the metal), will I be able to clean and polish the ring etc)

The ring has to be worn so you have to know what thicknesses of metal are appropriate - too thin and your ring will have issues (bending and breaking), too thick and you will have issues with cost ... the thicker and heavier the more metal is involved and the costs will increase.

When modeling for rapid prototyping/casting you need to leave a bit extra for shrinkage during casting and finishing (the ring will need to be filed, sanded and polished)

So to sum it up there are a lot of issues involved... not saying that you couldn't model and have someone finish it for you just that it might not be as easy as you think :).

Hope that helps.
