hello, I really want to replace my C: boot drive with one of these.. it should be enough to have the system + apps on it.. I won't put any other data on..

Corsair P128 CMFSSD-128GBG2D 2.5" 128GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) with an ICY DOCK MB882SP-1S-1B 2.5" to 3.5" SSD & SATA Hard Drive Converter ..

Any of you have an ssd as boot drive..?

Thanks. h.

yep 8)

i installed two 32gb of these into a 64gb raid 0
http://www.intel.com/design/flash/nand/ ... /index.htm
in this cage:
http://www.sharkoon.com/html/produkte/d ... ex_en.html

directly connected to the intel Onboard Raid controller.
Its big enough to hold cs4 and all the 3d programs i need,.. and have about 10GB for scratching.

The big differenc in SSDs is MLC and SLC drives... a while ago it was not recomended to install an OS onto an MLC drive..
which is due to the low IOP/s when it comes to tiny files .. ( basically what happens when read/write Pagefile/Adobe scratchdisks/ installing programs...)

MLC technology has improved , but i would make sure to find a review on the drive, that states it will run fine with an OS on it!

I've been running SSDs for awhile now, using 2 80GB Intel X25-Ms, one for OS, one for apps. Mine are generation 1, and I've been really happy so far -- the drive in the link is generation 2, so it should have somewhat better performance than mine (see here). AnandTech was still recommending this drive as of last August.

For the switchover, I used Acronis True Image...it transferred my entire Vista x64 boot-drive flawlessly with no OS-related issues at all; I just took the snapshot, then switched boot drive priority to the SSD when it was finished.

nice! i bought mine quite a while ago.. the new x25-m looks awsome in every way!

interseting specxs on that one.. they state 10 mio hrs before mtbf.

intel x25-m has 1,200.000 mio hrs

intel x25-e has 2,000.000 mio hrs

just wondering ... if it's for real it is a crazy good product!

JD .. that's cool... I run a similar setup, but the secondary app drive is the Fantom Greendrive. Let me ask a question .. So if you ever did a reinstall of the OS, .. that app drive is worthless, ..right ? I mean, you'll have to reinstall all the apps with a new OS install and that there's no real trick for saving all the installer/registry entry etc.. stuff for programs ... correct ?

Pretty much, yeah, I wouldn't expect many programs to work. I mainly do that just because 80GB is too small to the hold both the OS & all my applications. Some would probably work pretty well though -- e.g., for Maxwell, you'd just have to re-create the MAXWELL_ROOT variable. Cinema would be similar...usually it's the cross-platform ones that will work best, since they have to try not to rely much on the OS for settings/etc.

Yeah ... I figured so.

I think what I'm gonna do is grab another SSD and Win7, .. do a clean install/apps. Keep a dual-boot with with the current X25/Vistax64 install and when everything settles in with the new drive, I'll kill off the Vista drive completely and use it for pure storage.

Big transition for me -- I just have to leave a working drive for obvious reasons. I'm all convoluted .... like Hervé. :D

I know Vista has been decent with you, ..but I've never quite enjoyed it. lol.. I still have constant stutters/hiccups etc... All which scare the hell out of me ..

Hey, Thank you to all posters...

well... I was already 80% convinced, but now it's more like 200%... I hope the day we'll see mass storage with these babies is not too far...

Anyway, I will definitely order mine today...

I also have Acronis Jeremy, so thank you for precising it was easy....

I think I'll take a big one, and put all apps and system on it... voilà..

Markus, indeed the one from OWC looks like a deal....

Hey Christo... we are all convoluted... hihi..

BTW, I also decided I will replace any normal hdd every 2 years.. good or not... you can't believe these little carousels.. hehe
