Hi!

stumbled across this very promising and cheap 3D-digitizing solution as plugin for Rhino3D:

http://www.rhinophoto3d.com/

It takes a series of regular photographs with some print-it-youself points stuck to the object to create points in 3D space of it's shape. I've tried it, and it work very well, just in beta though.

What do you think?

Hi Bjorn,

thanks for the link.. very interesting plug-in.
it seems to work very well on larger scale objects - what was the size of the object you digitized with it?

I would guess the smaller the object the less precision you get..
Also the process of sticking the tags on the model is a little unflexible; i mean step after step, although it really depends on what the task is.
For architectural models, choosing the way (points, lines, curves... or even draw surfaces directly via space arm in rhino) of digitizing a model in "real time", imho is very important for the whole process. (understanding/reinterpreting your geometry)

....on the other hand, 4000€ is what keeps me from owning a microscribe!

..so I hope you can print these tags at 3mm diameter as well....

Hi, yes I tried it on a curved chair, and it worked pretty ok. I guess you ought to be able to print the labels smaller, but I'm not sure. Can't see why not actually.

ok thanks for explaining. actually I do copy the T[…]
