Please post here anything else (not relating to Maxwell technical matters)

I am on a quest for quality trees to be used in maxwell. I have tried the 2d stuff from Dosch and was not happy. I have looked at Onyx, Evermotion, xfrog, etc....

I don't feel my skill and knowledge of Maxwell is high enough to make a qualified decision. So I would really appreaciate any recommendations for some of the best 3d or 2d trees for use in Maxwell.

Thanks

I use VB trees in every project and find them to be quite good. I use an old collection but was looking at their site the other day and they have great new collections. a bit pricey but if used regularly well worth investing

I don't think the question is which renderer you use. It's more about which 3d program you use. For example, try texturing a tree in Max or in Rhino...

I find rendering Onyx trees just as easy in Vray as it is in Maxwell. The question is are you going to model the tree, or mainly use pre-made trees?

I wrote a little overview of both Onyx and Xfrog here (in post #22). Since Onyx doesn't have a demo version, you can see a few screenshots of it (via links) in post #26 (same thread).

I have looked very strongly at Onyx for some time and like the ability to create your own trees. However, with current work loads and time as a factor learning another piece of software and spending time to create trees is definetly a con at the moment. Are there any pre-made trees of similar or better quality?

Some of the vbtrees looked pretty good, I'll have to check into those a little further.

Anybody have any experience with the 2d trees from got3d? They appear to be better than dosch.
Any other 2d tress that anyone would recommend over dosch?

You prolly knew then, that Onyx comes with a shitload of trees, shrubs, bushes, and various other imaginary tree stuff. they are not 3D file format per se (as in 3DS or OBJ), but Onyx data files (so the files are small), which you just load, export as whatever format, and render.

For MAX I would also suggest the itoosoft forest plugin. It is fast and easy...Of course we all know that modeled trees are the best but the poly count is sometimes a big problem if you don't have a renderfarm

This is another very good selling point in favor of Onyx over other 3d tree plugins. Onyx has the largest included library of trees/bushes/bamboo/etc than any other program - included in it's base price. Other's only give you a handfull, and charge quite a bit for any additional libraries.
