I have an office with three pcs, a router, and now two new network hard drives.
Most of the times is me just working alone  , but one day the other two pcs will have someone using them 8)

I would like to use one of network hard drive to archive all our architectural projects.
The other network hard drive, I would like it to periodically back-up my primary network hard drive. is that easy to do???

where should I start

Are you using gigabit ethernet? If you are using you pc to backup from one network hd to another one you will be using twice as much bandwidth. So if things get slow that's why.

It's simple to do, even with windows XP backup, you will just schedule a periodic backup job from one drive to the other. If you right click you C: drive and select properties, under tools you will find the backup tool. Then:

-Back up files and settings

-Let me choose what to back up

-Now you select the source data. It's a goo idea to have the network drive mapped and use the mapping. If not, you should find the network HD under 'my network places'.

-Choose a destination (your second network HD) and give a name to the backup set.

-Now it's time for a tough decision. Click on advanced and you will be presented the choice of the backup type. I'd choose incremental, you can read a little bit on this here.

-Select "VERIFY DATA AFTER BACKUP"

-Make sure you selected "VERIFY DATA AFTER BACKUP" - I lost half my honeymoon pictures for not doing this...

-Select "Append this backup..."

-Schedule it. Daily during the night is a good idea. It will protect you from both data loss and stupid-mistakes-on-important-files.

-Check if it was done right. You will find the report in event viewer under 'Application'.

Windows backup messed my life more than once. I now use Genie Backup, wich costs a litle but has some nice features, includding emailing you the backup result. They also have plugins for a wide range of programs, saving all the data and settings.

Good Luck!
