that's great, ... I always wondered if there were drummers out there hammering out jungle rhythms(if it could be done), ... and now we know. :)

He's a drum machine, .. finally a human doing the work of a machine.

True, it's a nice piece of rythm demonstration, but for a real drummer, check out some Mastodon stuff, that guy is insane.

Or Carey, or Vinnie, or De Jonette, or Hakim or about 1000 other guys who could do this bit while flatlined in a coma. Man, I wish when I was coming up this is all it took to be considered a player; could've saved myself 3 decades in a practice room.

I'm surprised that anyone of a creative nature would not recognize the guy's creativity. So, it's somehow not fair, that he gets his 3:21 of fame on Youtube, when there are far better drummers out there starving?

Enjoy life. It's easy.

#1, he's not that creative. #2, my life sure as shit hasn't been easy.

I make my living as a musician and composer, having studied for 30 years, working professionally for 20 of those years, and I'm just saying what he's doing is not particularly difficult or challenging. I know no shortage of players who could do something orders of magnitude more creative and inspiring with the identical setup, that's all. I mean, great for this guy;I don't take anything away from people who enjoy it, but there's a global trend towards devaluing work and abilities which take a lifetime to master.

This is so that people think they've got a shot at leaving the dead-end cubicle prison they resigned themselves to when they decided security was more important than happiness and went to work for a soulless corporation, dreaming most of the time for the 2/7ths of the week when they actually get to enjoy life. The life of a musician/rock star/actor/etc. looks like all fun and money and a helluva lot better. The problem is that it's really hard to be good at that stuff, and most of us end up living out of our cars for years at a time. So it's easier, and in more people's interest, to make the criteria for those jobs so impossibly low that virtually anyone can do it. Which is what's happening. This guy isn't the cause of it, but he ain't that great, either. Even that moron Rosie O'Donnell said it perfectly in regards to American Idol: "“If you keep serving people crap, they’re eventually going to think it’s a meal." Amen.

I'm just replying because I don't like the 666 on the end of my post count.

But while I'm at it, I'll say that when I was 12, I happened to be at a local radio station with my mom, who was helping with a fundraiser for the local symphony. Somehow I ended up playing Pineapple Rag on air on the piano in their studio. I probably sucked, but my dad was first chair oboe and I guess they thought I was cute. I had no business playing music to innocent people on the air. But there I was. And there that guy is. It is what it is.

Please share these good examples with us Mike. :D Help everyone raise their level of musical/instrumental perception. Saying just "You're listening to crap." won't help. And you say it's said by a moron, so what do you think about the ones who can't even understand what a moron says? I thought music is also an entertainment media.

Tim,

Thanks for link Tim, good stuff.

Mike,

If only the Sex Pistols had all been classically trained and spent 30 years in a practice room they might have written some good songs  You don't have to be a technical virtuoso to make interesting or creative work.

Cheers,

Nik
