My mom is changing photo-lab and this new lab requires for all her files (photos) to be numbered in a certain way.

Example

old name: DSCF0014:jpg
New way: 07010014.jpg (where 07 is the year 01 is the project # and 0014 is the actual picture#)

I could do it in photoshop with automate... but then I have to erase the old files.

Any other option? :D

Well, there are many batch file renaming softwares. Try googling something like 'photo file renaming software' and you should get lots of results. You might want to add 'free' to the search string. An example (not freeware):

http://www.inforapid.de/html/searchreplace.htm

freeware...and it works great. 8)

[edit: on second thought...it might just search & replace text inside of files...not rename the files themselves. But check on their site...they've got other stuff too.]
