Can you give me some comments and suggestion to improve my website(blog)? Here is the link: hyltom's blog.
For my point of view, the layout is finish. I just need to upload all my work from 1995 to 2006, around 200 projects. So before starting that, i want to be sure that nothing is missing and that it's enough explicit. By the way, i will close the access in 8 Hours, so better have a look as soon as possible.

quite greeen. allright.
two things bothering my eyes are the fat black triangles/arrows for "design timeline" list view and the inconsistent fonts (some small, some very small, some black, some grey, some links underlined, others not..)
just my quick impression. oh, you say design is finished. sorry.
missing? a bit more "about" maybe..
best

it's already very nice, simple and clean.
My suggestion: I usually like a lot that kind of green, but I think your it is too acid and quite distracting, try to desaturate it a bit. and you absolutely need to change the vertical alignement, you don't really need all of that gray on top, just below the blogger banner. Maybe a little more color variation, but that's a matter of taste... and if you I also would try without the picture border, just to see how it comes along...
keep us updated,

-f :P

Yup ,very nice site - agree with jdp, I'd 'flatten' the green a bit and maybe introduce a complementary secondary color, perhaps for the text. Cool cool :)

Don't see anything missing, i'd love to talk about the layout like the others :lol:

Maybe add a "back >>" link to the image pages, your target audience uses IE6 without tabbed browsing.

Anyway, great :)

The access to the website has been close.
Thank you all for your constructive comments, i really appreciated your help. I will try my best to make some change base on your feedback. But my skill is so bad (i make one website every 5 years) that i have no idea how to proceed for some of the modification. And as you have notice this blog is base on blogger sample, so change are not so easy to do. But i will try and keep you inform of the progress.

Task:
-Change green color
-Change vertical alignement
-Remove the picture border
-Linked images open in a new windows
-Change inconsistent fonts

I brought some help to a friend last week for a blogger based website, as far as I saw the layout is based on CSS, with several classes and pseudo-classes declared in the code.
for vertical alignment you need to have a look for something like this in the template:
Code: Select all
body {margin: 0px auto;}
for the border, you have to find something similar to this:
Code: Select all
img {border-width:0;}
fonts depends on ID and class, so are very site-specific.
I reccomend the webdeveloper toolbar for firefox to inspect your page layout...

-Linked images open in a new windows
It's imho better to leave people a choice on how to view them. I would be annoyed if i had windows opening all over when browsing through your works. So I'd prefer the back button/link idea :)

If any questions about HTML or CSS come up feel free to ask us anytime.
Code: Select all
body {margin: 0px auto;}
0px = 0 :wink:
-Change inconsistent fonts
Now that were talking about those, i'd say increase the size. Tiny fonts look very fashionable and about everyone uses them but in fact visitors will apprechiate larger fonts that fullfill their purpose of being read (like e.g. this board's default).

But don't loose your head over this hyltom, it's very presentable even if you don't change it any further.

I'm opening the access to the website on more time during few hours. I have make some change according to your comments. But i have one problem when enlarging the pictures. I have tryed to make a popup windows but i can't put it in the right position (center vertical and horizontal)...and i don't like so much the way it's working. I will prefer to click one time one the picture to open it in big and then click again (anywhere on the picture) to close the windows. If you have any suggestion how to do it, please let me know. Concerning the idea of Adrian, i don't know how to do it also.
Anyway, i will try again and again to find something better than now.
If you still have any comment, i will really appreciate your feedback.

hyltom, ...okay --- thanks for opening it up a bit more. I kind of agree with the others about muting the green a tad. It just has a high vibration to it, ...which can be perceived by some as, ..unpleasant.

I thought I'd throw in my call for a sample color scheme. A new green, ...brown-grey taupe and an orange accent -- plus a new global font suggestion. It's just my 2 bit contribution .... or it may spur a new idea. ...dunno.

ps. ..the general idea, ... I think is working.

The navigation in the design timeline area needs some work. It is confusing with the arrows, and the way it responds when you click on one. The one you click on gets hidden away, and my mental reference of where I am and have been is gone.

Also in the 2005 area it is annoying to have those pictures pop out of the screen at you.

I would also move the navigation to the left and the images to the right. Peoples eyes go from top left to bottom right when they view something. When they enter a page the first thing they will be looking for is where they want to navigate. Hence putting it on the left may make more sense.

I would tone down the green also as others mentioned. It is distracting. By the way your signature is very nice. It looks like the way a famous person would sign something. I dont know if you need it on every image though. Mine looks like crap that is why I never sign anything. :lol: Your product design work has nice quality also. Its simple and clean the way it should be.

Thanks for the color proposal Ivox3. I know that most of you have some problem with the "electric" green, but i want to keep it. I have desaturated it a bit already, but maybe it's not enough. I will do it again if necessary. About the color scheme, i prefer to have 1 strong colors. 2 strong one (green and orange) like in your proposal become confusing. I have change the font and used Verdana instead of Arial (it seems i can't used Century Gothic with blogger).
Eric Lagman wrote:The navigation in the design timeline area needs some work.
I haven't so much choice with blogger. I can't do better than that. I also tried to change the toggle in front but i can't find the way to do it. And i don't know why this toggle become really big in IE.
Can you tell me which web software are you using? it's strange that some link disappear.

Totally agree with you. I don't like that also. For sure i will change it.
Eric Lagman wrote:I would also move the navigation to the left and the images to the right.
I have made the change.

Thank you very much for your feedback. I will show you the new result soon.
