I want to start by saying, I'm not making fun of anybody in the forum because I myself make mistakes when typing. The other day I typed "my" instead of "might" just because I wasn't thinking.

With that being said, I love some of the uses of the English language in this group. As in, I love how certain words get exchanged that mean close to the same thing but when used in a sentence just seem weird. Like there was a thread when a person was talking about "the render surrendered 5 hours." He obviously was talking about how long it took but it just sounded cool the way he put it. Like a theausaurus on crack.

I'm currently trying to learn Korean and it makes me wander exactly what I'm saying when I talk. :lol:

EDIT: Does anybody recommend a series of books or programs for learning languages. Currently I'm trying out RosettaStone but I'm not sure I like it's interface. It's teaching easy stuff, like dog, cat, boy, girl right now. But to teach "boy" it shows a picture of a boy with a soccerball and no words in English (it knows I'm learning from English) of what it is. Right now it's not a problem, but in later lessons it could be something where I can't decide what in the picture is being described.

Friend of mine had to learn chinese for business. He still is in fact. I tried to get at least some feeling for the language and grabbed his books and some red wine and started reading. Seems that depending on how you pronounce the end of some (to me) identical words it could mean everything from something very nasty up to something very very nice. Tough. Same in Korean ??

Being from germany I sometimes use "germanisms", oftentimes with the late posts (There you go again, LATE posts meaning evening posts....). Although sometimes it gets a bit too much in some threads, i remember somebody from spain some time ago asking about something or the other, i think next to nobody understood the poor guy.

And of course I would´nt want to miss the spanglish error messages that still pop up from time to time while working with maxwell ..... :D

That's why I'm trying to learn Korean, it has an alphabet. Chinese (Mandarin) is tonal and based on characters. Way too hard. All my chinese friends laugh at me when I try to say "How you doin'?" :wink:

Aaaaahhhh. I am glad I can cope with english. I tried learning french, but did not reach a sufficient "SL" to actually use it for something other than telling everybody that I don´t smoke.....

You mean, 'its interface' ;)

It is = it's
Its = 'his/hers'

Kinda surprising to me how many native speakers don't get this..

Anyways, not trying to bug you, just something to add to the topic :)

Hahaha, I actually knew that and have bugged my friends about it before. That's why I made sure to point out at the beginning that when I type I'm not always the best.

The one that annoys me the most is "good and well." My mom's a kindergarten teacher and she drilled that lesson into us. To this day when people ask me, "How are you doing today?" I can't bring myself to say "Good" like everybody else. I have to say "Doing well." :D

yhou --> I think it is good enough :)

Why bother speaking accurately a language that is inconsistent anyway...
