Hello.

Currently Im working with CAD-models, and they are quite heavy. I know
there is one program that can delete every polygon "inside" a mesh (not
seen by the camera in any direction), but I cant find it. I think its
something with "princess" in it... Anyone know anything about it or know
any other soulution? Right now, the model is so complex, maya crashes
all the time. I need to reduce the poycount without mess upp the model..
sort of. :S

Hmm.. now i don't know Maya and how it operates but perhaps there's some sorta LOD script type thingy you can run and then bake the results it gives you, or some other type of function in Maya or a script that removes polygons that cannot be seen by the camera. It should be possible..

Did you search here or on the web for a similar script ?

Well, I dopnt want to reduce any of the polygons that can be seen, so LOD is not the thing, but I will look at the link you posted. Thanks.

isn't this very difficult to calculate when the back part of the model may be seen in reflections of other objects?

against sky i can understand this... but unless You only work with diffuse materials, this might give a lot of errors/artefacts when reflected.

?

Yes, thats right, but its not those parts I want to delete. I want to delete parts inside the object, which is imposible to se from any angle, and in any reflectance. Its a very complex CAD-model and everything is there, and its rather heavy.

ok thanks for explaining. actually I do copy the T[…]
