I dunno about where you are, but in America (at least Austin, TX) it depends more on your portfolio than anything else. My "degree" was in Engineering Design Graphics (glorified drafting), got a job with an architecture firm to be their 3D guy, end of story. Nobody cares about the degree for this kind of stuff, just be able to show an amazing portfolio. IMO

My "degree" (hahahahaha) is in Electronics Engineering... but then I got into plastics tool making, so apprenticed with my boss at the time (now one of my closest friends, and interestingly enough is a brilliant analog electronics engineer turned toolmaker)... I began my "career" (hahahaha, I keep cracking myself up...) designing scanning electron microscopes... "bleeding edge" crap... got sick of that, and started designing toys... along the way have designed power semi-conductors, wearable heart defribrillators, fart machines and singing balloons...

forget the "degree specific" stuff and learn to learn... makes life so much more fun and gratifying...

My degree is in architecture but I didn't like doing CD's all day so I decided to give CG a try and loved it. Misterasset is right though it is more about your portfolio than anything else.

:D Thanks for your post. Its True what your all saying most people that finish University dont actually go for a career in what they've studied! But good tips there! 8)

An architectural degree here, but I really sucked on hand drafting so I started to love computers. I got hooked up with CG and photorealistic rendering, so I am here trying to learn the best render software on the market. It's nice to know your backgrounds.

I agree totally. I got my current job in TV based only on my abilities, all my 3D work has all come through my portfolio.

No university, although had I gone I would have sat advanced robotics with artificial intelligence & computer hardware programming. (My head would quite probably exploded, had enough trouble with Quantum physics.)

I do have Uk A-levels in Maths & Physics which I took 12 years ago.

I have a degree in "Occasionally Being Humourous"?

No, I have a Certificate IV (like half a diploma) in 3D using 3DS Max and another one in using Maya. They were 1 year fulltime courses each.

I also have about half a diploma from AnimationMentor.com because I had to pull out due to expenses and not enough time, hehe.

I am professional cook, ... and right now I am the butler of a lady... 8)

...mmmm.. some people might judge you just on your portfolio... but big majority ask for some degree and diploma... at least in Europe.. I know it is a bit different in US though... :D

BTW, there is little money in 3D, this is why people with high degree are doing other things...
