Missing a couple of expensive hardware makes sense I think. :) I believe, additional nodes in less price would yield to same perfection.

please do so ;) From a technical point of view, I am sure you can setup something more interesting. I just picked it because it was widely available. The choice of the Polyurethane occured as it was the only SSS Preset that was present to Maxwell and Arion btw ;)

Even more Interesting might me Milk and coloured emitters maybe ? :lol:

No, it's totally something else and nothing related to what we demonstrate here. Actually, what you wonder is not called "caustics through dielectrics" as widely used. More generally, it's "refractive caustics on specular surfaces". Sun caustics seen through a clear window, through a pool surface and so on. If you ask whether we're considering such a solution for the forthcoming update, the answer is no.

I don't know why this material was made to look like the one in Arion....I think the original Maxwell material looked better :mrgreen: Brighter and fuller. Why not try the orange juice preset and just change the roughness? That should give a better idea of how roughness and SSS work together, it should 'light up' inside and along the edges, as well as look almost transparent in the thinner parts. Then match it in Arion (or close to it)....is it that difficult?

I think Mihai made a point. But the Maxwell's material wasn't made to match the Arion's one, it the other way around.
And i agree with Tom, the dragon is making me sick too :D

Just a quick note for Tom to be sure it's crystal clear and won't be questioned over and over again: the politic at RC about unbiasedness is just the same as at NL. No round corners to gain speed, quality first, pure unbiasedness, physical correct rendering. As a user i almost feel like it is almost too much sometimes. Fryrender or Arion, just as Maxwell, are not renderers that tries to match the reality using faking solutions. They are light simulators, no compromise (except bounce cropping in Arion, if you want to be picky. that is a GPU limitation, yet 512 is more than enough in 99% of the cases).

Just another one (and last, hopefully) dragon, same scene, another material showing full internal reflections & caustics + SSS.

About the Hardware: a 580GTX with 3GB of ram is 520€, and faster than (at super very least) 3 core7i to render, so the calcul of what is cheaper is quite straight, hardware-wise, without even thinking of the software. Yet is has some limitations, indeed.

The Arion's material shared was intended to match the Maxwell's 2.6 version, not the newer.

I agree with mihai, let's make some orange juice or whatever, then match the settings in Arion, it'll only take some minutes to have a match. Here is a Pomelo juice: http://randomcontrol.com/blog/?p=36

The confusion seems to be on the forum and in the mind of a large group of user from a long time. I propose to the masters of MR to post a schematic view of the limitation?
I am sure it would help some newbee here and prevent for the same question always being asked. No?
