one thing i'd love to see is a realtime preview in maxwell à la hypershot or photoview 360..biased of course..but it would speed up the setup alot..often i wanna place a reflection at a certain area..right now i have to do alot of testrenderings until it's where i want it

This is impressive. Luxology is making things happen fast. I have been using their current simplified render engine in Solidworks photoview 360 and it works great for when you dont need 100% real and are in a time crunch. It does not feel like a complete product yet (photoview 360) but I am expecting it to be pretty awesome in the next release if they can incorporate some of this new stuff mentioned in their product preview. Competition is good. Its what makes innovation. Keep it coming.

Hi Eric is official that modo 401 will have Solidworks Importer. I think is worth the $900 investment just for the extra UV, Paint, Render, animation tools... even if you never need to use the modeling tools inside Modo.( of course that is gonna be valid only if they have done a good job with the translator/importer) http://www.luxology.com/press/release/2 ... orter.aspx

Now all is left is a Modo/Maxwell plugin.

Thats cool. I wonder if it just takes the SW triangle mesh or translates it to quads for a nice mesh to edit in Modo?

Ill think at list quads since the aim is to UV, Paint, inside Modo. I wish they do something with n-gons, Using n-gons provides a lot of freedom during the UV process etc. On the other hand Maxwell does not support n-gons so if you want to export from Modo to MaxwellStudio you will need quads (is a mess if you ask me. I never understood why NL does not support n-goans)

Next Limit has always taken an Innovative route in their features and quality which we've seem throughout each release! I wont be surprised to see better ideas than the fry swap tool in future releases! :)

Please could someone explain me why I should pay for MR upgrade?
The above statement is a good reason to pay for MR upgrades :D

I have to agree with Tea-Bag, they do Innovate but in a very Maniana way. Now seriously is not easy and it takes time. However, Ill not be surprised to find that they have been working on a total rewrite taking into account their customers needs

Houdini is this highly procedural app it think, very steep learning curve. I downloaded the demo for linux once and didn't get past the gui. If you're dedicated, you can supposedly do some really crazy shit with it.

You callin' me stupid?

I'm definately going to try the demo. I've been curious for a while. And I see Maxwell has a plugin.

Good luck Bubba! You will need it.

I started to learn Houdini, and really is an awesome app, but as Adrian said its learning curve is pretty high, and from my point of view is not for architecture. So if you want to play, well play but I think there are better tools for you, I mean, the kind of work you do

Thanks, Jose. I just want to learn it for personal reasons. You know, increase my marketability. Not for work stuff. I am too fast with ACA and Max to switch. If I had time, I would like to learn many 3d softwares. Time and money, though...
