hey Markus.. thanks so much...

ok, indeed reliability is really my main concern.. :!:

I went to Dobro.. first impression was good.. but I used the "CA" (Chris advice) to know more about it..

for any product, you just type the name and add "Vs complaints".. and voilà... not good for Dobro..

 :!: BUT the good news is that the guy making the review also points another pearl.. the Mercury Elite-AL Pro Qx2

http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/RAID/Desktop

it looks like the Dobro, just a lot better... and I have a hard time finding anything negative on internet... that's the point.. sure more expensive.. but if I'd loose all my stuff, it would cost me an eye and a kidney... hehe..

(.. but the girl talking on Dobro site is wow wow.. 8)

Now if someone has had a bad experience with the Mercury Elite-Al Pro Qx2.. say it now.. hehe :D

nice, that's the one i thought to buy as well for speed... as for the drobo, i had an excellent service with them - initially had a fan noise problem with it. they sent me a new drobo in 24 h directly - then i could send them back the old unit.

one more tip: i recommend you to buy 'enterprise' level harddisks, those are specified to run 24/7 and usually have a warranty up to 5 years. it's what they put into servers for example. they cost maybe 20-30% more than standard ones, but considering today's failure rates, it's well worth to invest into them. standard drives aren't apparently supposed to work day and night. inside my drobo i've put 4x1T HE103UJ from samsung. they are very fast and quite - 5 years warranty. those are already over 1 year old, so maybe there are newer models now.

i had very good experience with OWC until now - bought lots of mac stuff over years from them.

cheers

ahh cool advice Markus... in fact you're right about HDD enterprise.. simple hdd's are moe for home use a few hours a day.. but when running 24/24.. better be solid.. !

btw, yes OWC seams a very pro company... I think I'll go with them... :D

Thanks again Markus ! 8)

Thanks David.. indeed, it does look very good... when you say lack of documentation.. does that means it is difficult to install..?

where did you buy yours if I can ask...? :)
