Seriously.. I think that I'm not going to pay for a MR upgrade because the quality in Modo is so high and it's definitely enough for my/your clients.
Please could someone explain me why I should pay for MR upgrade? I/you can get same quality stuff just in few minutes with Modo but I/you
need to wait the same result with MR in..what.. umm.. 28h??? And.. I/you can also do modeling in Modo with its brilliant modeling tools

and it's only 895$!!! Buy Now!!!

Ps. I'm not working for them.

wait a min. Jack... I/You won't get the same quality than Maxwell render.... that's 100% sure.. BUT as you're saying.. it might be sufficient for your clients.. (and it sure is for about 95% of clients..)..

It is also a matter of setup... the renders they show are made by really proficient Modo beta users... like looking at a "Ben Render" from Pure and saying... wow look what I/you can do with Maxwell... KWIM...?

I reckon it's a way better deal than Max or similar apps.. the community gets larger and larger as I type..

anyway... 401 will be a killer all around app...

True. Yet, as you say, sufficient quality in most cases. The set up's a b*tch, though.

Still, modo's a whole lot of app for the money. Great tutorials, too! (How 'bout it, NL? ;) )

Hey I even wonder how it will compare with Vray... at least in terms of speed..

Nah you haven't missed a thing Bubba :)
Vray will be no competition for 401 anymore, atleast not from what i can see in the examples Lux has shown to us. It's now really getting both great quality output and a speed to match that. It's a tough competitor even for unbiased engines.

Some guy on the Lux forum said something yesterday about unbiased rendering in Modo, how you can achieve that by disabling some render parameters. I'm not sure if this is true or not, i haven't tested it myself but if it would be that simple it would be sweet. I think the trick was to disable irradiance caching, or something like that. Can't remember..

Modo still needs improvements in the GI-department though. Depending on your scene it doesn't get clear, or splotch-free no matter what setting you use. It's the same indirect lighting weakness that Maxwell suffers from, i guess a physical/mathematical problem, but i think VRay nailed it long ago. Modo's brute force GI probably works in those cases, but that shouldn't be the aim.

DoF and Mblur look better, but not clean and will probably be pretty slow unless they changed the algorithm.

Still, awesome engine in most other aspects.

Herve I totally agree with you it's all about the artist and yes Ben's Vray gallery also looks "photoreal" to me http://www.chaosgroup.com/en/2/details. ... rID=15&p=1
Also here is something you will like, Cakes done with Blender IndigoRender http://cggallery.itsartmag.com/story.ph ... nch-pastry So my point is when you spend $2000-3000 just to get started, since one node wont take you far you certainly expect something better, more robust than an opensource software.

Indeed, you will notice render time increase when you after "unbiased look" and I think it can be comparable to maxwell or fry. What is cool is that all features are integrated, one example, the preview system works with Renderable Curves, fur, Replicators, Instances etc.
As we all know Modo is not famous for the rendering engine but is getting there when here at Maxwell TWO YEARS LATER we still Talk about sufficient NETWORK RENDERING among others.

hey sure they're wondeful !... It's like I said, at the end it's all about the artist hands.. no matter which app or technique.. and this guy is very good.. I've seen an oil painting in an exhibition where it was hard to convince myself it was not a photo..

I admit that I was little too harsh and straight but when you are making renderings for your clients you can't wait 30h some single image to get finished. MR should invent something like Fryrender Swap tool or something. Btw my clients don't even want photorealistic stuff - they need ideal images for their websites, brochures etc. If you are some 3d artist, MR might be useful tool but is it good enough for a person like me who's clients are advertising agencys etc.. they need their images fast. I'm just criticising.
