Please post here anything else (not relating to Maxwell technical matters)

oh - come on Max!

I know I'm not the only one that think you do wonderful stuff with Maxwell Render and have a lot of respect for you. Just ignore those belonging to the dark side of the force... :)
me too :D....and hey Max, i wasn't referring to you, indeed....you know we usually stand on the same side of the battlefield!

def4d: That's pretty much it what you said there. :) hehe, speaking of those very first Maxwell creations LOL, i found some of those i posted a couple of weeks ago when checking some old archives on my drives, omg they look horrible. I have no clue what i were thinking posting that then :D i was probably not thinking at all.. hehe btw, i think it was a P3 700mhz i had back then.

Leo: No group hugging unless you're all hot chicks :D are you ? hehe

martgreg: Oww, now that is definately terrible if you can't use all your cores. Why don't you snailmail it to me, i'll fix it for you! :P

Hi,

First af all, sorry for my bad english..... :(

I´ll post an image of a current proyect that are rendered in Maxwell and Fryrender and you can make your own opinion.

Both renders are made in the same PC and render time. (2 hrs)

Dual quad core Intel Xeon X5355 2.66ghz
4 GB ram
Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit.

Here you go.........

My first comment was in terms of noise.as you can see the maxwell version is more noise free in the same time of render.

thanx!!

Thank you for this example, happy to see that Maxwell wins.... However, we are never sure that the materials are exactly the same...
Also, if you repeat the test with less light, (for example late afternoon) I am not sure it will be the same... Also, if you make some materials more reflective you would probably have to wait much longer to see a clear picture with Maxwell, while aeronoise and sky portals in Fry could make a difference.

Although I haven't used Fry, I think that these tools help a lot sometimes.

I vote Maxwell of course, but if there is a nice tool in Fry, I would like to have it too.

I understand it's hard to make both images exactly the same, but I have to say it: sun is not in the same place and neither are some plants outside.

Good comparison though.

Well, actually those differences between the two setups are there...but nonetheless even if you look only at the sample level of the two images, it's clear that maxwell wins. Not to talk about the far better gamma and overall light distribution. I still believe that the strenghts of fry are not in the photorealism itself if compared to maxwell. The already mentioned technologies are very useful optimizations, as well as the non-photorealistic output option or, last but not least, the real-time navigation output that will be implemented with the final version...but come on...if what you need is the best quality available i believe that you have only one option  8)

And if not????
Answer: Then learn Vray.... why bother learning an unbiased renderer if it is not the best!

To be fair on Fry it is still in Beta - lets think back to Maxwell beta and the 5 or so RCs that seemed to get worse with each release. We should really be comparing Maxwell Beta and Fry Beta, or Fry 1 and Maxwell 1.X as we all know optimisation and calibration is the last thing on the list before release. Significant speed increases and much reduced RAM footprints have just been announced with examples for Fryrender which is just approaching RC status.

As for quality they are both similar as we can see in the above example, with Fry making good use of its 5S technology on the blinds and vegetation. I have maxwell as well as Fry and Fry deffinately is more stable, more useable, and has more features, especially in the tonemapping and layerblending (multilight) areas. I owe a lot to Maxwell though as it gave me some great results for my design thesis a couple of years ago, for which i will forever be thankful, it's just a shame it's kind of fallen behind already. As fry has definately learned from maxwell, maxwell could also learn a lot from Fry and hopefully it will introduce competing features like it has done already with instances and displacement.

I think many of us are missing something.... Unbiased renderers are not good or bad, are just physically accurate or not... So, even if Fry has some more features what we have to compare is results... Both renderers can become better of course and it is very natural that Maxwell is better for some people and Fry is for others, like every other tool.

Both images show the speed limit of unbiased rendering. A Dual quad core Intel Xeon X5355 2.66ghz - wow. I suppose so, Vray would need 20min or less to create a clean image at this machine. This images are so little, no blury reflections, simple materials ... this must be done faster.

is this the complete same scene...because the shadows in the maxwell and frypic are different!
