Hervé, .. have you run through every LW entry in the program control and allowed permission?

So, .. if it gets shut down, .. what do you do ? , .. shut down ZA ?

well yes.. there are 3 apps that control LW... all permissions.. but apparently it is a proble also for other LW'ers that use ZA...

I am now a bit paranoid.. but in Fact I am like Adrian, firewall of the router.. or sometimes now I totally disconnect the PC from anything.. so no problems... hehe..

Thanks Sir Christo.. !

Curious
It has been one of the most stable so far on my system.

About the long file names: There is a log that is being saved somewhere. If you open it with a text viewer you can see the full path.

Also, did you install bitDefender on a clean system, or did you install it on top of the one which was already infected ?

Yeah i installed on a clean system - i figured out the log file info, but i'm in the process of finding out from the helpdesk people why it randomly closes - i havent bought it yet, just using the trial which acts a bit differently.

Will, were you able to figure out that issue. Did they help you through it ?

I think i'll probably use some other software. Generally not too happy with Bitdefender.
Fair enough.
The engine seems good in terms of its ability to detect threats, but there are some issues that have creeped up lately with the 2008 edition. Version 10, (which I have been running), used to be very good in every respect without encountering the errors in that discussion (possibly because I am on an ATI card).

At least you gave it a try :-)
Curious to see what will be your final choice.

PS, Thomas i've changed from v10 to Total Security 2008 - Everything seems to work ok now.

My Bitdefender subscription run out, so I decided to see what else is there.

Switched to the Kaspersky suite 2009 and it is very nice. I still feel BitDefender is a top program (top3), but Kaspersky 2009 seems even better (lighter, faster, and with comperable accuracy ... but twice as expensive too).

A quick comparison test in terms of resource load:
System with no AV installed: 203Mb, 32 processes at idle (default windows launch and looking at the desktop )
With Bitdefender: 410Mb, 39 processes at idle
With Kaspersky 2009: 245Mb, 33 processes at idle
With Nod32: 231Mb, 33 processes at idle
With AviraAntivir: 235Mb, 33 processes at idle

Avira and Nod32 are the lightest of all. However Nod32 is loosing ground lately in terms of detection. Avira ... the interface was slightly not to my taste, but the product is very solid (It even outperforms Kaspersky on detection).

Hi Thomas, did you thave seen AVG from http://www.grisoft.com/? Maybe something for your test.

I use XP64 and so I havn't a big choice. I use AVG since a year and it works fine. I'm curious where it is placed at your test.

From what I have read ... AVG is free and light ... but it is not top on terms of detection (so it lets some critters slip through)

For free antivirus, I would go with the Free version of AviraAntivir ... it is the top right now.

I suppose you can go with Antivir and Comodo and get away with only free stuff

PS. If you feel adventurous, there is a "do it yourself" antivirus test here:

Here is an interesting Firewall test:

Thank you for th links. I try AntiVir and it works fine at XP64.
The firewall comparison is very interesting - the AVG is not recommended.
