that is the eternal question everyone has to face. It took me a long time too to reach decision. I had the luck to be able to try out both major brands (Canon/Nikon) for a couple of days so that helped a lot.
A good thing is that no reasonably modern camera is really bad, they are all very mature, feature rich and complete. Nowadays I would rather base my decision on what lenses I want to have and then choose a body for that.
I am perfectly happy with what I have now, it does everything I want it to and more besides. The D7000 is considered to by a upper level mainstream camera a so called prosumer cam. There are many more models above and below this one (both Canon/Nikon) to cater everyones needs.

Since my 3D related jobs have completly dried out in the past few months i had no choice to move more and more into photography until 3D picks up again sometime in the future (hopefully). So now today i have joined a new stockhphotography agency called SkaraborgsBild where i will shoot stockphotos and also perform eventphotography of such things as concerts, sports and much much more.

This is the agency i will be shooting for now. :)
