Please post here anything else (not relating to Maxwell technical matters)

Octane's power is not only GPU, it is a biased preview engine with very good results, combined with unbiased methods for the final image... There are some nice features that cannot be judged only by the final output...I suggest you visit their site and check the gallery... For the price and speed ther results are really nice... at least for architecture... I understand the need of hi-fi renderings for product presentation but for architecture Octane's results are top quality to the client's eye. Don't forget that Octane is still a beta software and lacks many important features like emitters and displacement...
for me, it looks like octane has a long long long long way to go..

A "real time" (or maybe better said: "high speed") preview engine is a huge advantage to Maxwell. The talk of noisy renders is missing what is probably it's major point: while there is possibly a time saving to be had in rendering, for sure there is a very possible and *huge* time saving in terms of setup for scene/lighting/materials. I know a lot of people tend to think Maxwell is just press and go, but that is clearly not how it works for high realism and good lighting/composition/materials etc. Having a faster preview would certainly make those slow parts faster :)

This combined with a 50% price reduction certainly makes Maxwell a *far* more tempting and viable option.

Someone really interested in that? I do not think it is fake, because in recent days topped the render nodes, plain and simple, I guess that is already shot the core of competition, as always. Regards

true true

I was all sunday 18th away from computer to resist from uograde and suddenly I read that promotional offer is extended to 23th and maxwell have GPU preview engine. I think I would betray my love to 1.7.1 if this realtime prewiev would be true.

I personally don't think it's a GPU preview engine - more like a modified RS0+ renderer running off an i7 CPU. Look at the guys hardware specs - i7 & Nv9800 - not exactly a cutting edge GPU to demo on - surely he would be using a GTX 260 or greater.

Also look at this link from Thea - a similar material / lighting preview engine in development - running off the CPU.

(I hope it's ok to link to this)

This will make it much easier to fine tune lighting and materials - long overdue IMHO.

Most likely is a modified RS0+ and if its isn't GPU related surely that's a good thing if NL has managed
to pull this feature out of a hat without any extra hardware (Most of us using Maxwell render have high enough Spec CPU'S) requirements that's a bonus! Be interested to see how it would run on a lower spec CPU! just as a rough benchmark :)

A priceless feature indeed! :D
