I been saving money for some months and now i'm considering spending every penny on a new monitor because the piece of crap 15+ year old crt monitor i found at the junkyard is about to give up real soon. Now i been looking around for something that fits my pricerange at around 200 euro, here's one that looks promising which i found, but what do you guys think about it. Is it ok or should i keep looking for something else ?

Thanks Bubba, however i'm still floating around in doubt about what to spend my pennies on. I been thinking about either two 24" lcd's or one huge 27" panel. I just don't know.. i found a pair of BenQ 24" G2420HDBE monitors i can afford now or one single Samsung 27" Syncmaster P2770H, the total cost is about the same for each choice and i just don't know what to pick. :(

i think you should better look for a s-ips or s-pva panel - and better buy 1 good than 2 bad. tn panels are good for gaming but they have a bad colour fidelity and bad viewing angle - not good for image processing...
and 27" with 1920x1080 has the same resolution like 24" - only bigger and more noticeable pixels...
i think you can get a 24" with s-pva or s-ips for 450-500€.

Yes a monitor like that would ofcourse be optimal, and i have searched around for a 24" ips or pva but i have not been able to find one within my pricerange. All of them been way to expensive for me and my relatively small budget. I figured that about the 27", atleast the cheaper one i could afford which had the same resolution as the 24", that there would be some issue with it so i scrapped the idea of getting such a big monitor. Unfortunately the prices of ips and vpa type monitors here in Sweden is higher than 450-500 euro due to higher taxes than the rest of europe.
Anyhow i'm gonna go into town in the coming days to take a look at those BenQ 24" monitors and see what they look like live. :) if they're good enough then i might just crack open my piggybank and invest in them. We'll see..

Thanks numerobis for your comments.

Bubbaloo wrote:Yes, Samsung is a good brand. We have several 22" (different model) monitors at the office for over a year, and no problems with any of them.
Here the same. I have Samsung 226CW which is really cool. Although an old model though... but I guess it's the lowest price in 97% color gamut...

But now, here's already a new version which is far superior and still cheap (235$). Consider ;)

P.S. about growing inches and other brands, think twice. Because, my primary target was always "the gamut"! Accept nothing below 92% ;)

Tom: Oi, even that "old" one looks like a good monitor now. You and your gamut, you like that stuff don't you :D

kami: That's not a bad idea, i didn't actually think about splitting it up like that until you mentioned it now. I'm gonna take the tram downtown to have a closer look at some of the monitors which are within my budget and then decide which one's to pick. We'll see in a few hours what i come home with, if anything. :)
Watching movies on a monitor hehe, tried that, didn't work. I'm instead watching them where they should be watched, at the cinemas on a huge screen with awesome sound. :)

Definitely! I figured this when I've started up Adobe Reader on cheap-gamut LCDs. You quickly spot when you see brick color instead of carmen red. Disgusting...

Well.. after watching them in action today at the store i caved and invested in them. :) i have to say first impressions now are pretty awesome. These things are huge compared to my old 19" crt, i will post pics soon. Just have to try to absorb this now hehe ..i never had monitors this big and good before, ever!

Don't worry, you're not the only one because, I was just thinking the same until I know. Then, I had friends here thinking same, too. I invited them and they came with their LCDs but their desperation was hilarious. You can only spot the difference when you see them side by side. And, don't dare to ask for gamut at the store, at least here you only receive a weird stare. :)
