Very interesting. Thanks for posting the information and images.
T-Splines are going to offer a lot of possiblities for those of us that work in Rhino.
I remember trying something like this with an earlier T-Splines beta, and there was a limitation as to the number of polys it could convert. Something over 20,000 comes to mind. So my 4 million poly displacement was not a candidate.
It's going to be a must have plug in when it's released.
Bob McNeel is on the board of directors of the development co, btw.

If I may ask. T-splines seem great for poly-to-nurbs conversions but does anyone know of a clean way to export nurbs to say 3ds max? I played with rhino at my old job a long time ago and converted or exporting nurbs was my main gripe. I'd like to invest in rhino but I mainly work through max to set up and render my scenes.

Afaik, export to 3DSMax generally should work with untrimmed Nurbs objects (as .igs). Trimmed faces get untrimmed at export. Clean export works either with quite a few extra modeling steps (to avoid trims, which is not always possible) or with 3rd party exporters, e.g. by npower.

For the most part, Rhino IGES export/import to Max supports trimmed nurbs. There are some situations were they import untrimmed, like a capped cylindar. I forget the workaround now, because I've been using Power Translators since 2002.
