DAZ just released a plugin for DAZ Studio that exports to Alembic:
http://www.daz3d.com/new-releases/alemb ... daz-studio

I'm working on other things right now so I haven't had a chance to use Maxwell lately, but I would be curious what any other DAZ/Maxwell users think of this plugin as a means of better working with DAZ assets in Maxwell.

Best,
Jason.

I tried. The result for now:

- Maxwell imports the object with a wrong scale. Since that alle objects 100times larger then they should
- I get an error message in DAZ while doing the export (Mac OSX)
- The import is incomplete (might be a result of the broken export)
- The partially imported objects don't have the expected surfaces/material zones. It is not possible to apply the required materials

Edit:
There is the DAZ Forum http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewthread/35689/P60. User of other programs (Lightwave, other rendering systems) experience the same problem. So the exporter is broken.

Kind Regards

I finally got the exporter and gave it a test run.

It works well for me, with the exception of scale, which is an easy fix in Maxwell Studio.

Disable all of the options on export from DAZ Studio and the file will come in with Maxwell materials/triangle groups ready -- all you will need to do is link the textures to the materials and it should be ready to render.

This is a big improvement over FBX and OBJ based workflows -- FBX does not always keep proper vertex positions, and OBJ breaks the model into different pieces (rather than a single model w/triangle groups -- which is far preferable).

Best,
Jason.
