Mihai gave me some advice on that a little while ago, these are commercial options:
I'm making some myself :D But yes, it's not so easy to find good HDRs with enough range to have good shadows, and sharper shadows for that matter. There is moofe.com which are expensive but also have a few cool free ones. Maybe cg-source also which are very cheap, you can just buy one and test it. Another one is hdri-locations.com which are also very good.
Free HDRs are like mining for diamonds...you have to sift through a lot of crap but you'll get a lucky free one occasionally.

Honestly I find less and less use for HDRs, I've just been making my own rooms like this:

I've got multiple lighting setups in that room that I turn on and off. Then with Multilight I can tune every light. And most 3D packages will let you bake a whole 3D scene into an HDR image, should you need it later.

http://www.hdri-locations.com/

I like hdri-locations but as you know (we had similar chat before) I prefer to shoot my own - it's not so hard.
The girocam is good value if you are shooting single exposure LDR panoramas where there is a lot of movement.
That advantage is lost to an extent when bracketing multiple exposures required for HDR. Though it does allow you to shoot quickly.

Perhaps if you have something specific in mind I can help, perhaps share some of my own hdrs.
I have numerous hdr panoramas shot in the Catalan Pyrenees and UK. They are set up as sIBL sets using Christian Bloch's sIBL edit.
There are loader scripts at hdrilabs for Lightwave, Modo, Cinema 4D, Maya, Max etc.

Hey Brian !

Yes, I remember your great help few years back.

Thanks for posting here too !

I'm searching something pre-evening-ish, a little sub-tropical (southern america). Before golden hour, but I need the sun to be bright enough to cast some shadows. I'd say a summerday, 5-7pm, slightly cloudy .. and the resolution of the sperical map should be high enough for fullHD renderings.

Else, nothing specific ( esp. not european vegetation ) should be visible too high above the horizon ( basically I just need the sky, I'll create the environment myself ).

I've seen a few images which could fit in the above links.

ok thanks for explaining. actually I do copy the T[…]
