I'm guessing you can build a 16 core machine between $12K - 16K.
And for an i7 920 setup ... between $1100 - 1500. And to be honest --- possibly less, ..but let's be conservative.

That's roughly (averaged) a $12,700.00 cost differential.

Now, .. based on current Benchwell.com stats -- the Xeon 7350 system is faster by 224 seconds.

Cost differential($12.7K) / speed difference (224sec.) = $56.70 is the cost for every second of speed gained.

So, ..to gain an advantage of 3.7 minutes in the Benchwell scene, ... you will have to spend an extra $12,700.00

That is one mighty little processor. ....and I just saw it advertised locally here at Microcenter for $229.00.

I'll take two please.

(You're buying, right?)

I'm waiting for the multi processor boards for i7 Xeons. Can't wait to see the benchmarks. Need a new Benchwell scene... 7.4 sec, bm 33450...

Could someone please get a quad 6-core system and get back to me on benchmarks and such? One could be built for about $16k. :D
