Looks like bad news for NextLimit...

Since you have to render the scene multiple times, once for each light(s group) it also multiplies the render times. Its almost your normal render time multiplied with the number of lights.
You can do this with a renderer that outputs HDR images, and composite the different ones together. But the whole point of Multi Light is that you can get different lighting situations from ONE render.

One should be able to render out separate passes of the light sources as hdr images (I guess most of the modern 3d apps are able to do that) and shut them on/off or regulate them in ps, no? This would also be done from just one render...

It can be done with any 32bit renderer, but this script may just make it practical enough to compete with the efficiency of the ML system in Maxwell. It won't be as smooth, and it may take a long time to run all the renders but probably still be extremely useful.

I’m the one that created the script and I’m also a Maxwell user, the reason I created the script is that I can’t always use Maxwell but wanted that functionality on other renders.

Of course its not the same as Maxwell, its impossible the do it trough Maxscript that would have to be a job for each render developer, what I’m doing you could basically do it on any 3d application and a compositive application. I’m just making things much easier and faster.

I'm pleased to hear that this is no competition to the original. Well done anyway, Guillermo!

Guillermo,

Any possibility of this working for Max 2008 64 bit?

Looks really good!
