Thanks, yes modo has some similiar tools, but they don't perform physics calculations or interference detection.
I have a part where my client wants a rendering as if I took a box of 100 or so of these and dumped them onto a table. No type of array in sw will give this look.
Using cosmos motion or even simulation I can pre-arrange a bunch of parts in the air above a plane (with sidewall) and simply activate gravity. However, sw chokes doing this with more than a few parts at a time. (the part geometry is pretty complex).
So, in the end I created small subsets of randomly placed parts manually and then arrayed the subsets to fake a random look. It turned out ok.
