Does anyone have tips on how to create nice light streaks from cars for nightshots. As seen in long exposure shots. Preferably in a post process step using Photoshop or the like.

Use an orange or red hard brush and set it to dodge.. experiment with the strength, but that should work.. (Ryan Church used something like that in his Painter video tutorial).

A brush on colour dodge as d_d suggested should get you going. You may find you need to use a lighter variant of the colour if you want to push the light closer to white where it blows out a bit.

It can be hard to get the sort of perfect uniform shape you often need for a light streak, so you may want to try drawing a pen path along the line you wish to have a streak and stroking it with your brush set as above.

You may find using a smudge brush useful to fine tune and stretch out the streak and blend the colours as you paint.

Last tip is to try doing all the above on a layer set to vivid light mode.

Isolate the lights on black.

Motion blur them, if possible

Color correct if necessary

Apply using SCREEN blend mode
