Hey - I'm about to buy a MacPro to render on speced out as follows...

MacPro

Two 3.0GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon

4GB Ram (4 x 1GB)

750GB Drive 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s

(Stock) NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256MB (single-link DVI/dual-link DVI)

Will be adding either a NVIDIA Quadro FX 1500 256MB or a NVIDIA Quadro FX 3500 256MB - to run under Windows only.

Installing Win XP pro 32bit

Price $5,000 (plus the cost of an additional video card)

Any opinions or advise???

I'd get a 10k raptor rather than the huge drive. These are benchmarks from barefeats.com http://www.barefeats.com/hard88.html

I'd get two or more 10k raptors before i'd opt for 750gb 7200 rpm, or just use a slower hard drive(s) for archiving.

Agreed. I'm also running 2 raptor drives, ...plus, ..you can always pick up a big drive later (they're cheap.)

Hi jeffg! You´ve said that that you will install win xp 32 with 4 gig ram , but with win 32 bit you only can use a maximum of 3 gigas, i recomend you install a 64 bit system.
