well, I guess that installing thunderbird it is not a solution, but it definitely worth a try later, 'cause its spam filtering algorithm is superb...

Hi Leo,

Here's a free brute-force Outlook spam filter:

Open Outlook, go to

> Tools
> Rules and Alerts
> New Rule
> Start from a blank rule
> Check Messages when they arrive
> click Next
> Step 1: Select Condition(s) - don't check anything
> click Next
> "This rule will be applied to every message you receive. Is this correct?"
> click 'Yes'
> Step 1: Select Action(s)
> check 'permanently delete it'
> click Next
> Step 1: Select exceptions(s) (if necessary)
> check 'except if the subject contains specific words
> click the 'specific words' link
> enter something like 'mail for mom...not spam'
> click Add
> click OK
> click Next
> the rule description should look like:

Apply this rule after the message arrives
permanently delete it
except if the subject contains mail for mom...not spam
stop processing more rules

> leave the 'Turn on this rule' checkbox checked
> click Finish

...now, tell your mom that her friends should send her mail with 'mail for mom...not spam' in the subject...or else it will be deleted.

My mom has a photography business... so "mom...not spam " might not be the best solution

I'm using the http://popfile.sourceforge.net/ and seems to a good solution.

I go by the idea that If I get spam from Micro$oft on my Hotmail e-mail I shouldn't be using a Micro$oft product to block spam ;o)
