I'm not a fan of addressing the crimes of businesses by reverting to a 14th century agrarian society where we all have to grow crops and ride bicycles everywhere. I prefer the model where businesses like this are disassembled by public and governmental legislation. Which of course means 1) The governments become extensions of the will of the people, instead of power-and-control machines inexorably driven by and beholden to corporations and 2) The people have a clue about something other than iPods and pharmaceuticals.
1) No freaking chance.
2) Not in my lifetime, that's for sure. Nowhere in history either, for that matter. Tomorrow isn't looking so hot, either.
Corporations don't kill people; people do. The percentage of human beings on this planet who have any clue; any perspective - social or historical - on such issues, let alone the courage, conviction and conscience to do anything about it besides post email links everywhere, is so infinitessimally small it is barely distinguishable from zero. If you want to rid the planet of companies like Monsanto, the first step is to elevate the society from which they are born. Which in our case, would mean basically going back to square one in terms of belief systems. And even then, you'd still have to conquer the all-pervasive, primitive, crippling fear of, well, just about everything, that currently motivates everything the little uber-monkey does. Good luck.
