hmmm. good question! so if you can overclock the E6800 (stock @ 2,97 GHz) by 30%, which means you have got a cpu speed of 3,86 GHz, then I would like to see the comparison of the E6800 and the opteron Quad!

Lets just calculate linear (I know it is not correct).

E6600 @ 2.4 GHz , V1.0 speedtest by 1h37m = 97m
E6600 @ 3.12 GHZ , V1.0 speedtest by 1h17m = 77m

E6800 @ 3.86 GHz should be then by 57m, which is around the benchmark of the opterons!

the E6800 is priced around 950 Euro but descending!

I think this could be what you are looking for

mainboard

CPU
http://www.geizhals.at/deutschland/a206413.html

so 1 x mainboard = 350Euros

2 x CPU = 900 Euros

that´s a fair price I think

...wouldn't it just be a dual Woodcrest you're looking for? I haven't heard that Conroe is ever going to be multi-socket capable.

[edit: you must've changed your post while I was posting, firebird! ]
